International choir festival

On Saturday 30 October and Sunday 31 October 2010 Koor&Stem is organising an international choir festival for choir singers, conductors and anyone interested in vocal music at the Flagey centre in Brussels, aimed choir singers, conductors and anyone interested in vocal music. It will be a great opportunity to meet people with similar interests, to participate in various workshops and open rehearsals, to discover new international song repertoire or simply to enjoy beautiful choral concerts. It’s oh so choir. The two-day event will focus mainly on Scandinavian choral music, but that’s not all! Australian composer Sandra Milliken will also be present.

The festival offers various opportunities to join in and sing along. The programme includes lectures, workshops and reading sessions by professional conductors and composers such as Mats Nilsson (SWE), Kurt Bikkembergs (BE), Michael Bojesen (DEN), Louis Buskens (NL), to name but a few. They are ready to coach and inspire you, and will introduce you to numerous musical discoveries in Dutch, Flemish, Swedish and Danish choral music. Singing with others is a special experience. The international choir get together is an opportunity to sing along with the participating choirs and the audiance.

AMAZING CONCERTS

It’s oh so choir truly offers something exciting for everyone. On both Saturday and Sunday afternoon, there will be a choir get together between Danish, Dutch, Flemish and Walloon choirs: it promises to be a fascinating experience. What’s more, a children’s choir from Brussels specially formed for the occasion will have a turn in the spotlight with some swinging songs from the well-known Attakatamoeva publications from Koor&Stem. Last but not least, on Sunday 31 October in the late afternoon, the Flemish Radio Choir will bring the festival to a close with a wonderful concert.

YOUNG COMPOSERS

The AGEC Young Composers workshop is an important part of this event. It aims to promote young contemporary European composers. The workshop gives them the chance to have their work performed by an “ambassador choir”, and to get feedback from the conductor and other widely renowned European composers. They exchange experiences and ideas about all aspects of the work: its difficulties, its form and its interpretation, etc.

For the young composers this is a very valuable experience and for some, even sets new challenges!
